Introduction to edgeX Background#
What is edgeX#
This tutorial will explore the recently emerging edgeX—
- edgeX is the first MVP in the market, adopting an order book model, aiming to allow users to self-custody their assets while enjoying the experience and trading functionalities of centralized exchanges.
- edgeX focuses on on-chain financial infrastructure for liquidity and trading, combining the functional performance of CeFi with the security and transparency of DeFi, with the goal of building a complete on-chain financial system.
- The edgeX team members come from well-known exchanges such as Barclays, Morgan Stanley, Bybit, and HTX, and are developing multiple trading and liquidity applications.
Security of edgeX#
The edgeX account system is built on the Ethereum mainnet, and for user convenience, it supports deposits on the low gas fee Arbitrum chain, and transfers funds to the mainnet for free through its own liquidity pool. Regardless of which chain users deposit from, the final funds are stored in Ethereum ETH, maximizing the security of user funds.
The Next Hypeliquid?#
It can be said that edgeX occupies a favorable position, as it is the only product that has not yet issued tokens and offers an experience comparable to the top DEX Hyperliquid.
With the emergence of the popular project Hyperliquid in 2024, the edgeX product is gradually maturing. edgeX is supported by the well-known market maker Amber Group, which is proficient in trading, user needs, and liquidity strategies, and its product capabilities are on par with Hyperliquid.
Fun Fact: Amber Group is a leading global provider of digital asset trading, asset management, and infrastructure. As a core market participant, Amber Group is one of the top liquidity providers and validators for mainstream exchanges and hundreds of crypto projects.
Following Hyperliquid, edgeX is expected to become the next dark horse. In recent months, many users have become wealthy overnight through trading points on Hyperliquid. Currently, edgeX is just starting out with fewer users, making it the best time to enter. During the event, depositing $100 and trading will earn you 5 points, which are likely to be exchanged for tokens at a 1:1 ratio in the future, with off-market predictions valuing each token at around $5.
Recent activities of edgeX: The edgeX Points Alpha season is ongoing, and users who missed Hyperliquid can follow edgeX to earn early points. The iOS and Android apps are now online, and the web version is available. The author strongly recommends the experience, which is as smooth as centralized exchanges, and users can earn point rewards that may be exchanged for real value in the future.
Here are the detailed operation steps—
Detailed Tutorial for edgeX#
Step 1 Email Registration#
Visit the official website in your mobile browser, note that it must be opened in a mobile browser; it may not display the email input box if accessed from a computer, so please be careful!
- Enter a commonly used email and click the “Confirm” button to confirm—> Enter the 6-digit verification code received in your email to complete the registration.
- Click the “Android APK” download link at the bottom to download the installation package and install the app as prompted. iOS users need to download TestFlight first, then install the beta app.
- After installation, open the app, click “Connect” on the homepage, and select “Email Login.”
Step 2 Complete Initial Deposit#
After logging in, click the green “Deposit” button in the upper right corner to enter the deposit page. edgeX defaults to using the low gas fee Arbitrum chain for deposits, and the system automatically generates a unique wallet address, for example: 0x93c57911d2eE4B3cB9C12e31c3Be2f3eD71d52ba
, your address will be different.
It is recommended that beginners deposit at least $100 to receive a 5-point reward. Points are valuable and may be exchanged for token airdrops at a 1:1 ratio in the future, equivalent to real earnings.
Method 1: Deposit from Wallet#
As a decentralized exchange, edgeX only supports on-chain deposits. If you have a cryptocurrency wallet such as Metamask, TokenPocket, Rabby, or Backpack, and have a balance (e.g., USDT) in your wallet, simply switch to the Arbitrum chain and transfer to your edgeX address.
Method 2: Deposit from CEX#
If you are a beginner and do not have the above wallets, you can deposit to edgeX from centralized exchanges (CEX) such as OKX, Bitget, etc. For specific steps, refer to the article https://heiyetouzi.xyz/zhifubao-btc/: Register --> Identity Verification --> Bind Bank Card or Alipay/WeChat --> Deposit RMB.
It is recommended that beginners choose Method 2 (Centralized Exchange), as using a wallet involves cross-chain operations, which are more complex and have higher fees. As shown in the image below, withdrawing $101 from OKX to the edgeX address 0x93c57911d2eE4B3cB9C12e31c3Be2f3eD71d52ba
usually arrives within 10 minutes, which is friendly for beginners:
【Note】 When withdrawing from CEX, be sure to select the Arbitrum chain, and the address should be your edgeX address. The USDT amount must be greater than $100 (approximately 700 RMB).
Step 3 Trade to Earn Points#
Once the funds arrive, you can start trading. Set the leverage multiplier (up to 100x) and choose the direction (buy/long or sell/short). Be aware of the risks: although there are point airdrops for trading, there may be fees and potential loss of principal, so please be cautious and do not over-invest.
Step 4 Airdrop Points#
Click on the “Points” tab at the top to view the points earned from trading. Points are updated every Wednesday (UTC timezone), showing the total trading volume, points, and weekly ranking for the past week. Currently, there are fewer users; I earned 225 points through normal trading, ranking 117, with a fee loss of about $5, which is cost-effective.
Common Questions about edgeX#
-
I am a beginner, and I am not very familiar with contracts. Does edgeX have spot trading?
For beginners, it is recommended to start with small amounts and low leverage for contract trading. If you are not comfortable with contracts, you can wait for the spot feature to launch in February 2025 before trading. -
Can edgeX open both long and short positions?
By creating a sub-account, you can hold multiple long and short positions simultaneously. You need to switch to the corresponding account during operations, and the experience is good. -
Why can’t I deposit to edgeX even though my wallet clearly has a USDT balance?
Please ensure that there is a small amount of ETH in your wallet for gas fees on the Arbitrum chain. If not, you need to swap tokens or perform cross-chain operations on the Arbitrum chain. If you are not familiar with this, it is recommended to deposit from a centralized exchange (refer to Step 2).
